Site Pricing

“How much will a website cost?”

Not surprisingly, this is one of the two most common questions we get asked.

The second question is why we don't post our prices right on our website. Well, the main reason we don't post our prices is because the answer to the first question is - “it depends”.

Pricing Guidelines

What determines the price of a site?

This is kind of like asking, “How much does a car cost?” Well, it depends - do you need an economy compact or a full-sized SUV?

This depends on a number of things - and can be better defined by answering a few pertinent questions, for example -

  • What kind of site do you need?

  • What features should it have?

  • How large will it be?

  • Will it include multimedia, etc?

This is the main reason we ask what your budget is for the project in the RFP (Request For Proposal) worksheet. This helps us determine your needs and what we are able to do for you to meet your needs while staying within your budget. Without it, we have no real way of defining a price for your project, and it can waste a lot of time if we have to try to provide an estimate without adequate information.

That said, there are ranges that may help serve as basic guidelines to help determine a general budget if this is your first site and you have no idea how much it may cost.
These are general price guidelines you could expect while working with us. Redesign projects may be similar depending on the individual requirements of each.
All studios charge differently based on a large number of criteria. As a small studio limiting the number of projects we take on, we are able to work quickly with small overhead, thus keeping our prices reasonable.

All our prices include the registration of one domain name. Hosting is extra, but we have a very reasonable deal with our partner   Warp 9 Web Hosting .

  • Basic Brochure-type Website:

A basic site with a custom design, up to 5 pages of basic content, a contact form, and a map will usually run between $750-$1000.

  • Basic Wordpress Website:

A basic Wordpress site with a custom design, up to 10 pages of basic content, a blog, and very few extra bells and whistles will usually run between $1000-$1500.

  • Larger Wordpress Site With Bells & Whistles:

A Wordpress site with extra features like rss feeds, forums, multimedia content or other advanced features will usually run $2000 and up, depending on the complexity.

  • E-Commerce:

E-Commerce sites with custom designs generally run $2500 and up.

  • Large Sites:

Large complex sites for organizations built in more advanced content management systems like ExpressionEngine or Drupal, or with custom coded CMS, usually run $4000 plus. These sites generally have advanced features, a complex information hierarchy, and user interface design that need to be planned out very carefully.

  • Logos:

Logo designs are not included as part of a website design unless requested and will usually run anywhere from $400-$1100.

  • Illustrations:

Custom Illustration can also be added to the web design, but these are estimated on an individual basis, depending on how many illustrations are needed and the complexity of the concept and style required.

Please keep in mind that a professional web site design and development is a business investment and should be treated as such.

There are “designers” out there who claim to be able to produce a site for less than $500, or some such ridiculously low price. $500 for a site sounds incredible, but it isn't really. For this price you'll probably get a couple of pages, and if you want up to ten it will cost much more. You may find that there are additional hosting charges, or that the hosting is only free for 1 year, and after that it will either be quite expensive or unreliable, or both.

The word cheap suggests something that is of low quality and not worth much. Very few Web designers could afford to spend much time putting together a Website for such a small fee, so the work is likely to be hurried, and the design poor, not customized, and functionality, if any, will be extremely limited.

Web designers who single-handedly run a business from their basement don't usually have many overheads to consider, allowing them to provide services at low cost. Many people operating in this way don't last very long, or at least have another job providing most of their income. In such cases the designer can take days or even weeks to resolve problems or make updates that clients have requested. If you're paying very little then don't be surprised to receive an inefficient or unreliable service. Some of our own clients parted company with their Web designers and came to us because of this very issue.

In order to cover the average salary for a single Web designer a company charging such low rates for a Website would have to produce over 25 sites per month, per employee.

If you pay more for Web design you should expect more. Both the Website design and the service should be of high quality, and your designer should be available to you at all times, providing you with plenty of opportunities to discuss your requirements and to revise the design until you are happy.
For someone with a personal project or an individual starting out with a very small side business, this type of professional service may not be a good investment for you at the outset, but may be something you should consider investing in at a later date.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to discuss the requirements for your project or schedule an initial consultation and we will be more than happy to help!
